Anglo-Saxon women had a number of rituals for taking care of their hair. Powdered swallow was used to make hair thinner, which was fashionable at the time. To stop the hair from growing, they would put ants’ eggs into the hair. One treatment still used is when an individual gets head lice - brushing them out with a comb.
