Keir Hardie was a founding member of both the Scottish Labour Part in 1888 and the Independent Labour Party in 1900. In 1892, he was the MP for a constituency in the East End of London. He refused to conform with Parliamentary codes and etiquette, dressing in a way not acceptable to the standard Parliamentary dress code, and made controversial speeches, such as the abolition of the House of Lords. He was one of the two MPs that the ILP returned on their first election.
